Society Is Our Extended Mind and Body

“We seldom realize, for example, that our most private thoughts and emotions are not actually our own. For we think in terms of languages and images which we did not invent, but which were given to us by our society. We copy emotional reactions from our parents, learning from them that excrement is supposed to have a disgusting smell and that vomiting is supposed to be an unpleasant sensation. The dread of death is also learned from their anxieties about sickness and from their attitudes to funerals and corpses. Our social environment has this power just because we do not exist apart from a society. Society is our extended mind and body. Yet the very society from which the individual is inseparable is using its whole irresistible force to persuade the individual that he is indeed separate! Society as we now know it is therefore playing a game with self-contradictory rules.”

The Hopi Creation Story

 Creation said:

“I want to hide something from the humans until they are ready for it.
It is the realization that they create their own reality.”
The eagle said:
“Give it to me. I will take it to the moon.”
The Creator said, “No. One day they will go there and find it.”
The salmon said:
“I will bury it on the bottom of the ocean.”
The Creator said: “No. They will go there, too.”
The buffalo said: “I will bury it on the Great Plains.”
The Creator said: “They will cut into the skin of the earth and find it even there.”
Grandmother who lives at the breast of Mother Earth and who has no physical eyes but sees with spiritual eyes, said:
“Put it inside of them.”
And the Creator said: “It is done.”~

Message From White Eagle: Connect to Your Spiritual House During This Crisis

Message from White Eagle, Hopi indigenous....

“This moment humanity is going through can now be seen as a portal and as a hole. The decision to fall into the hole or go through the portal is up to you.
If you repent of the problem and consume the news 24 hours a day, with little energy, nervous all the time, with pessimism, you will fall into the hole. But if you take this opportunity to look at yourself, rethink life and death, take care of yourself and others, you will cross the portal. Take care of your homes, take care of your body. Connect with your spiritual House.
When you are taking care of yourselves, you are taking care of everything else. Do not lose the spiritual dimension of this crisis; have the eagle aspect from above and see the whole; see more broadly.
There is a social demand in this crisis, but there is also a spiritual demand -- the two go hand in hand. Without the social dimension, we fall into fanaticism. But without the spiritual dimension, we fall into pessimism and lack of meaning. You were prepared to go through this crisis. Take your toolbox and use all the tools available to you.
Don't feel guilty about being happy during this difficult time.
You do not help at all being sad and without energy. You help if good things emanate from the Universe now. It is through joy that one resists. Also, when the storm passes, each of you will be very important in the reconstruction of this changed world.
You need to be well and strong. And for that, there is no other way than to maintain a beautiful, happy, and bright vibration. This is a resistance strategy.
This is what is asked of you:
Allow yourself to take advantage of this time to perform your vision-seeking rituals. What world do you want to build for you? For now, this is what you can do -- serenity in the storm. Calm down, pray every day. Establish a routine to meet the sacred every day.
Good things emanate; what you emanate now is the most important thing. And sing, dance, resist through art, joy, faith, and love."~~

Intimate Relationships: The Power of Transformation

No matter how spiritually “woke” we may think we are, we still have deeper issues which can only be worked out within the context of relationship.
Left alone, we settle into comfortable patterns that limit the range of our emotional awareness and personal expression.
However, once we step out of our comfort zone and open up to others, previously unnoticed/denied aspects of ourselves begin to emerge.
At first, they make waves in the calm waters of our hearts, evoking passion and excitement. But when we let them in deeply enough, it’s like stirring up a pool of still water - all the heavy and messy things which settled at the bottom of our awareness are forced to emerge to the surface.
When our otherwise hard-to-reach issues get stirred up for us to look at, we have an opportunity to embrace these fragmented parts of ourselves, to become more integrated and whole. This is a blessing in disguise, albeit a challenging one.
Intimate relationships demand a depth of intensity and vulnerability which is the fuel for both transcendent passion and crippling conflict. This is why many esoteric teachings point to the “polar couple/ twin flame” archetype as the most powerful of alchemical unions. Intimate relationships have the potential for astoundingly accelerated transformation.
Whether that transformation leads to conscious evolution or unconscious sabotage depends entirely on each person’s individual state of Being.
If you and your partner aren’t engaged in sincere, deep, holistic self-work, there can only be 2 outcomes for this kind of relationship.
Either you and your partner will settle into a relatively comfortable but very limited relationship of matrix-based pleasures and pursuits where your dysfunctions harmonize, but leave little room for expansion of the soul…
OR… the relationship will dissolve to make way for something greater in your life.
This is the case with the vast majority of relationships in the world, which is why people are often so dissatisfied in relationships.
However, if you and your partner are committed to nurture the healing alchemical fire within each other, the richness of this kind of relationship is extraordinary.

This Body Is Not Me

This body is not me.
I am not limited by this body.
I am life without boundaries.
I have never been born,
and I have never died.

Look at the ocean and the sky filled with stars,
manifestations from my wondrous true mind.

Since before time, I have been free.
Birth and death are only doors through which
we pass,
sacred thresholds on our journey.
Birth and death are a game of hide-and-seek.

So laugh with me,
hold my hand,
let us say good-bye,
say good-bye, to meet again soon.

We meet today.
We meet again tomorrow.
We will meet at the source every moment.
We meet each other in all forms of life.

The Naked Truth

According to a 19th century legend, the Truth and the Lie meet one day. The Lie says to the Truth, "It's a marvelous day today!" The Truth looks up to the skies and sighs, for the day was really beautiful. They spend a lot of time together, ultimately arriving beside a well.

The Lie tells the Truth: "The water is very nice, let's take a bath together!" The Truth, once again suspicious, tests the water and discovers that it indeed is very nice. They undress and start bathing.

Suddenly, the Lie comes out of the water, puts on the clothes of the Truth and runs away. The furious Truth comes out of the well and runs everywhere to find the Lie and to get her clothes back. The World, seeing the Truth naked, turns its gaze away, with contempt and rage.

The poor Truth returns to the well and disappears forever, hiding therein, its shame. Since then, the Lie travels around the world, dressed as the Truth, satisfying the needs of society, because, the World, in any case, harbours no wish at all to meet the Naked Truth.

The Road

Find your lane. Make space for the flow to show
itself. Follow the natural rhythm of your life, and
you will discover a force far greater than your own.
- Oprah

Everybody's looking for the future. They're never in the present. So when they arrive at the future, it's not there for them because they're not present for it. If you get the idea that this is the moment that you have, it is the only moment that you have, then you live in the present, and you move with the flow, because this is the point of arrival. Right now.        -Deepak Chopra

Remember: The most important thing is not what's happening out there. What is primary is your state of consciousness at this moment. That determines what form the future will take. So the important thing to realize is that what happens to you is much less important than how you respond to what happens. That determines the way forward in life.     - Eckhart Tolle

Meditation: Stopping and Finding Calm

Walking is a wonderful way to calm down when we are upset. When we walk, if we focus all our awareness on walking, we are stopping the thinking, storytelling, blaming, and judging that goes on in our heads and takes us away from the present moment. To stop the incessant thinking in the mind, it helps to focus on the body. When things aren't going well, it's good to stop the thinking in order to prevent the unpleasant, destructive energies from continuing. Stopping does not mean repressing: it means, first of all, calming. If we want the ocean to be calm, we don't throw away its water. Without the water, nothing is left. When we notice the presence of anger, fear, and agitation in us, we don't need to throw them away. We only have to breathe in and out consciously and take a mindful step. Allow yourself to sink deeply into the here and the now, because life is available only in the present moment. This alone is enough to calm the storm.

A Prayer: This Day Will Never Come Again

How will you come to me Lord? How will I know you? How will I recognize you? I know you will come for me. You will slip into my being, perhaps in the middle of the night while I sleep. Maybe you will come to me when I’m not looking for you, when I’m distracted, staring into an oncoming storm fearing my immortality. Or maybe you will come to me in the midst of a lie that pours out of my mouth effortlessly. You will let me know you are listening as I listen to myself say something that is not true as easily as if I were giving the time of day. I tell myself that lies are insignificant that they don’t matter. How do I know what matters? What is insignificant? What if I’m being tested? Observed? Did you know I put my conscience to sleep years ago? Or maybe that’s how you will come to me. You will awaken my conscience like a sleeping dragon one day when I’m weakened by disease or fear or loneliness. And I will be forced to face the truth that I fear you, I fear truth.
You are truth itself and I feel that power rumble like an earthquake through my being each time my eyes look into the eyes of another human being. One word of truth exchanged through the eyes of another is enough to bond two human beings for eternity- the power of a sacred union. No wonder we fear truth. No wonder I fear you. How will you come to me Lord? You will come through truth. You will make me need you and I will come searching. You will make me shed my skin, my illusions, my weaknesses like boils ready to burst on my flesh. And then when I am broken, to weak to deceive even myself, there you will be, already resurrecting my soul. Somehow Lord I found this truth already lodged in my heart. You’ve already come for me.

A Way Out of this Prison

The wicked women to the wicked men is wisdom: the ugly is the mate and fitting (consort) for the ugly. Whatever, then, you wish to mate with, go, become absorbed in the loved (object), and assume its shape and quality.

If you wish for the light, make yourself ready to receive the light, if you wish to be far (from God), become self-conceited and far. And if you wish (to find) a way out of this ruined prison do not turn your head away from the Beloved, but bow in worship and draw high.

Parmahansa Yogananda: Staying Motivated on the Spiritual Path

After we find our spiritual path and start walking it, we feel exuberant, lighthearted, relieved to finally be on our way home. But after a mile or two we may become tired or discouraged.
We look around us, and it seems that the landscape has not changed; we are still the same unimproved, uninspired person we always were. And we wonder why we are not doing as well as we had expected and why we have not moved closer to our spiritual goal.
The great guru, Parmahansa Yogananda, knew that such let-downs would from time to time overcome the students of his teachings, so in addition to his Lessons containing the meditation and yoga techniques, he offered many other forms of writing such as poems in which he declared in dramatic ways that no matter how bogged down one may feel, there is no reason to become discouraged.
The great guru-poet insisted that the soul is on its way to God, no matter many times the thought occurs to one that life is just slowing down.
The great guru prefaces his poem from Songs of the Soul titled “My Soul Is Marching On” with the following words of solace:
Never be discouraged by this motion picture of life. Salvation is for all. Just remember that no matter what happens to you, still your soul is marching on. No matter where you go, your wandering footsteps will lead you back to God. There is no other way to go.
The poem creates a drama featuring life's dual nature. Stars are bright, yet are set in a contrast of darkness. As bright as the light of the sun is, yet the bright sunshine is not apparent during the nighttime.
Even the moon wanes as well as waxes. All of these natural phenomena keep their bright nature even when surrounded with darkness. Thus they exemplify the dual nature of light and dark.
The metaphor of time as a “grinding wheel” dramatizes the act of life fading from planets and even the lives of people. Flowers bloom and die; trees grow stately then are toppled; heroic figures are triumphant but for a short while. Time flies by, and each person’s life energies fade.
Yet as all of these dualities are in motion because we exist in physical and mental bodies, we falsely identify with the dying. The purpose of the spiritual path is to correct our vision, to help us understand that only on the physical level are these life-fading events occurring.
The soul is not affected by any of these changes: not the stars, the moon, the flowers, the trees, the demise of heroic men, nor the passing of aeons of time—nothing diminishes the soul.
It is always so uplifting to remember that the soul is ever new joy, ever new bliss, ever one with the Divine Beloved. After a dip in that memory, we look around and start walking our path again knowing we are, in fact, headed home. And once again we feel exuberant, lighthearted, and relieved to be traveling our spiritual path.

The Ten Commitments

These are our freedoms, not our restrictions.  You shall know that you have taken the path of God, and you shall know that you have found God, for there will be these signs, these indications, these changes in you. You will know that you found the path to God when you see these signs. For God’s promise is that no one who truly seeks God shall any longer do these things. It would be impossible to continue such behaviors.
1.  You shall love God with all your heart, all your mind all your soul.  And there shall be no other God set before Me. No longer will you worship human love, or success, money, or power, nor any symbol thereof. You will set aside these things as a child sets aside toys. Not because they are unworthy, but because you have outgrown them.

And, you shall know you have taken the path to God.

2. You shall not use the name God in vain.  Nor will you call upon Me for frivolous things. You will understand the power of words, and of thoughts, and you would not think of invoking the name of God in an unGodly manner.  You shall not use my name in vain because you cannot.  For My name-the Great  “I Am” – is never used in vain (that is, without result), nor can it ever be.  And when you have found God, you shall know this.

And, I shall give you these other signs as well;

3. You shall remember to keep a day for me, and you shall call it holy.  This, so that you do not long stay in your illusion, but cause yourself to remember who and what you are.  And then shall you call every day the sabbath, and every moment holy.

4.  You shall honor your mother and your father – and you will know you are the Son of God when you honor Father/Mother/God in all that you say or do or think. And even as you honor the Father/Mother/God, and your father and mother on Earth (for they have given you life), so, too, will you honor everyone.

5.  You know you have found God when you observe that you will not murder (that is, willfully kill, without cause).  For while you will understand that you cannot end another’s life in any event (all life is eternal), you will not choose to terminate any particular incarnation, nor will not change any life energy from one form to another, without the most sacred justification.  Your new reverence for life will cause you to honor all life forms – including plants, trees and animals – and to impact them only when it is for the highest good.

And these other signs will I send you also, that you may know you are on the path.

6.  You will not defile the purity of love with dishonesty or deceit, for this is adulterous.  I promise you, when you have found God, you shall not commit this adultery.

7.  You shall not take a thing that is not your own, nor cheat, nor connive, nor harm another to have anything, for this would be to steal.  I promise you, when you have found God, you shall not steal.

Nor shall you…

8. Say a thing that is not true, and thus bear false witness.

Nor shall you…

9.  Covet your neighbor’s spouse, for why would you want your neighbor’s spouse when you know all others are your spouse?

10.  Covet your neighbor’s goods, for why would you want your neighbor’s goods when you know that all goods can be yours, and all your goods belong to the world?

Live The Questions

Have patience with everything unresolved in your heart and try to love the questions themselves as if they were locked rooms or books written in a very foreign language.
Don't search for the answers, for they could not be given you now, because you would not be able to live them. And the point is to live everything. Live the questions now. Perhaps, then, someday far in the future, you will gradually, without even noticing it; live your way into the answer.
