This dream came to me during my divorce, at a time when I felt emotionally raw, spiritually sensitive, and deeply aware of my twin flame connection. For years, I had felt his presence within me. During my divorce, I also had the feeling that something might be shifting in his own life and marriage. Part of me wondered whether he would finally reach out. But I was afraid of making the wrong decision. I did not want to interfere in his marriage. I did not want to reach out simply because I was becoming available. I did not want to force circumstances into becoming what I wanted them to be. I prayed about it. If we were ever meant to build a physical life together, I wanted it to happen because it was truly meant to happen. Not because I interfered, pushed, chased, or disrupted someone else's life.
From Journal Entry 2018
He was driving a car. His wife was sitting in the passenger seat. I was sitting in the back. And suddenly I said: “I think the two of you should stay together.” They both quickly turned their heads toward me in disbelief and shock.
He Was Driving the Car
Cars often symbolize direction, movement, and the course of a person's life. He was behind the wheel. That detail feels important. He was responsible for the direction of his own life. Not me. I wasn't driving. I wasn't sitting beside him telling him which direction to turn. I wasn't reaching over and grabbing the steering wheel. I was in the back seat. I was present, but I was not controlling his journey.
That feels like one of the clearest messages of the dream. His life was his to navigate. His marriage, his decisions, his choices and whatever direction he ultimately traveled belonged to him. I could not steer for him.
His Wife Was in the Passenger Seat
She occupied the place beside him. That may have been painful symbolism for me to accept at the time, but perhaps the dream was simply showing me the physical reality of his life. Whatever I believed about our spiritual connection, she was his wife. She was sharing that physical journey with him. And I was being shown a boundary between what something meant to me inwardly and what was actually taking place in the outer world. That distinction became incredibly important.
A connection can be profound. It can change us. It can awaken something inside us. But that does not automatically mean we are entitled to become someone's physical partner.
The Words That Surprised Even Me
What amazes me most about the dream is what I said. “I think the two of you should stay together.” Those were not the words the longing part of me would have chosen. The human part of me had spent years wishing he would reach out. I had wanted answers. I had wanted acknowledgment. There were times when I imagined what might happen if our circumstances ever changed.
And suddenly my marriage was ending. Perhaps part of me wondered if a door was opening. Yet in the dream, another voice came through. What I understood at the time as my higher-self did not say: Leave her. Come find me. Now it's finally our turn. Instead, I said the opposite. Stay.
Looking back, I don't necessarily believe the dream was issuing some permanent decree about what his marriage was supposed to become. I think the message may have been much more personal. Don't make yourself the reason it ends. That is very different.
Love Without Interference
My own divorce had taught me how painful the destruction of a marriage could become. I had fought for mine. I fought for my family. I fought because I had children. I fought because I came from a broken home and didn't want that for them. And eventually I learned that fighting cannot save everything.
So while I was walking through the devastation of my own marriage ending, I couldn't bring myself to knowingly interfere with someone else's. I wanted to act with integrity. I wanted to know that if something were ever meant to happen between us physically, it would happen without manipulation. Without chasing. Without destroying something else first. The dream seemed to confirm that instinct.
Connection Does Not Mean Possession
This may have been one of the hardest spiritual lessons of my twin flame journey. Something can be deeply meaningful without becoming mine. I can love someone without possessing him. I can acknowledge what I experienced without demanding that the experience become a relationship. I can believe a connection transformed me without insisting that its purpose was marriage.
For years, I thought the meaning of the connection might ultimately be proven through reunion. Perhaps we would eventually come back together. Perhaps one day everything would make sense. But this dream began changing that understanding. Maybe the purpose of the connection was not necessarily to create a physical life together. Maybe some connections enter our lives to awaken us. To mirror us. To reveal our wounds. To show us our capacity to love. And then to force us to discover whether we can stand whole without possessing the person who awakened all of that inside us.
The Back Seat
There is something humbling about my position in that car. I wasn't in the front. I wasn't directing anything. I was behind them. Perhaps my subconscious was showing me: This isn't yours to control. That doesn't diminish what the connection meant to me. It simply places responsibility where it belongs. His choices belonged to him. My choices belonged to me.
During my divorce, I was becoming physically free. It would have been easy to interpret that freedom as permission to move toward him. But perhaps the dream was reminding me that my freedom did not give me responsibility for his decisions. I had my own road to travel.
The Beginning of Letting Go
At the time, I called this dream Hanging On. Years later, I'm not sure that title captures what was actually happening. Because when I look at the woman in that dream now, I don't see someone desperately hanging on. I see a woman beginning to let go of the outcome. That is different from letting go of love. Different from denying the connection. Different from pretending that someone didn't profoundly affect my life. I was releasing the belief that the meaning of our connection depended upon us ending up together. And maybe that was one of the most difficult forms of surrender.
Two Relationships Were Ending in Different Ways
There is another layer I see now that I couldn't fully appreciate then. My marriage was ending. At the same time, I was beginning to accept that the relationship I had imagined with my twin flame might never begin. I was losing one physical relationship while surrendering the possibility of another. That left me standing somewhere between two identities. If I wasn't someone's wife anymore...And if I wasn't eventually going to become his partner...Who was I? Perhaps that was the real spiritual work beginning.
The Person Left Standing Was Me
My life was not supposed to become a bridge from one man to another. My divorce wasn't simply an opening through which I was meant to move toward my twin flame. Perhaps it was an opening through which I was meant to move toward myself. That realization changes the dream completely for me. Maybe the dream was never really about choosing his wife. Maybe it was about choosing not to abandon myself again. Choosing integrity. Choosing boundaries. Choosing surrender. Choosing to allow another human being to walk his own path while I finally began walking mine.
I wrote beneath that old dream: I don't need anything from you to feel complete. Today, those words feel more important than ever. Because perhaps that was the real lesson underneath the entire experience. I could honor what the connection meant. I could acknowledge what it awakened in me. I could carry love without pretending it never existed. But I did not need possession. I did not need reunion. I did not need another person's decision to validate what I had experienced.
And maybe that was the moment my higher self was trying to show me something my heart was finally ready to hear: You can love someone deeply and still release the outcome. You can recognize the connection without steering his life. You can let him drive his own road. And you can finally begin driving yours.
